Shyamala exhibited musical talent at a very young age. Her mother Rajeswari taught her the first varnam when she was just three and a half. Rajeswari continues to teach her on a regular basis. Shyamala learns from Sri P.S. Narayanaswamy during her visits to Chennai, India. Shyamala has performed concerts in many venues in the USA and India, and has won several prestigious prizes in competitions. (please see below for details). In 2006, Shyamala was selected to be a member of the National South Asian Music Youth Orchestra (Samyo) of UK. As member of Samyo, she has performed at venues like the British Museum and The Lowry (Manchester).
Shyamala plays Western Classical violin. She has passed with distinction the Grade 7 test conducted by the Associate Board of the Royal School of Music, London. Her hobbies include composing music, reading and tennis.
